چکیده

The operational complexity of modern ships requires the use of advanced applications, called damage control systems (DCSs), able to assist crew members in the effective handling of dangerous events and accidents. In this article we describe the development of a knowledge-based decision support system (KDSS) integrated within a DCS designed for a national navy. The KDSS uses a hybrid design and runtime knowledge model to assist damage control operators through a kill card function which supports damage identification, action scheduling and system reconfiguration. We report a fire fighting scenario as illustrative application and discuss a preliminary evaluation of benefits allowed by the system in terms of critical performance measures. Our work can support further research aimed to apply expert systems to improve shipboard security and suggest similar applications in other contexts where situational awareness and damage management are crucial. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. A Model-Driven Decision Support System for Software Cost Estimation (Case Study: Projects in NASA60 Dataset)

Estimating the costs of software development is one of the most important activities in software project management. Inaccuracies in such estimates may cause irreparable loss. A low estimate of the cost of projects will result in failure on delivery on time and indicates the inefficiency of the software development team. On the other hand, high estimates of resources and costs for a project wil...

A New Approach for Knowledge Based Systems Reduction using Rough Sets Theory (RESEARCH NOTE)

Problem of knowledge analysis for decision support system is the most difficult task of information systems. This paper presents a new approach based on notions of mathematical theory of Rough Sets to solve this problem. Using these concepts a systematic approach has been developed to reduce the size of decision database and extract reduced rules set from vague and uncertain data. The method ha...

Real-time Decision Making For Shipboard Damage Control

This paper presents a formalism called Time Interval Petri Networks (TIPNs) and shows their efficacy for model-based envisionment of real-time concurrent interacting processes with temporal constraints. The TIPN formalism is developed by extending Petri Networks to Time Interval Petri Networks. The process of TIPN construction from a state-process domain model is described. Experimental results...
